Cork GAA Clubs Forum rallies supporters to fast-track forward-thinking change.
The Cork GAA Clubs Forum will launch its final report and seven key recommendations (see Editors Notes) for the future of Cork GAA on Sunday 1st November at 7pm at the Maryborough House Hotel, Cork.
The group is calling on all senior, intermediate and junior clubs in the region to ensure that their key Club officers and any interested club members represent them at this important event which is designed to open up discussion on issues, proposals and motions to be presented for ratification at the Cork County GAA Convention in December 09.
The Forum is calling on all committed GAA officers to help them present a unified and cohesive approach to the future enjoyment of the games. The main topics for discussion will include -democratic structures, the enhancement of existing communications structures between the Clubs and the Cork County Board and developmental issues to include refereeing, fixtures and competition structures to facilitate optimum enjoyment and efficiency for all concerned.
Suggestions for the clubs report have come from supporters, players and officers in various clubs and have been properly received, canvassed, mandated and incorporated in preparation for submission to Convention.
According to a spokesman for the forum, the final report closely mirrors the terms of the interim report which is already in the public domain and which underpinned the strength of the support of the Clubs for certain proposals but, due to the disappointing
pace of change, must remain as live issues which still remain to be activated.
The forthcoming Cork County Convention will see the Clubs continue to press for the changes they and their members have recommended in this report and the Forum is urging all club committee members to ensure that their Club representatives attend the Maryborough House Hotel meeting and register their Club’s earnest wish for reforms to the ultimate benefit of Cork GAA..
The Cork GAA Clubs Forum previously met with the Cork County Board Chairman, Gerry O’Sullivan, Runai, Frank Murphy as well as Peter Hanan of O’Kelly Sutton Consulting on Monday October 19th at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, at the request of the County Board Officers and Mr Hanan. The meeting was the first in a series of meetings planned by the Board to gather the views of the GAA in preparation for the County’s Strategic Plan.
