The launch party for Corona Light in Ireland took place last night (Wednesday 8th February) at The Bodega on Cornmarket Street in Cork.

Corona Light launch in The Bodega Bar,

The Mexican Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Carlos Garcia de Alba, officially launched the new light beer, which is only 99 calories per bottle, with Michael & Kathleen Barry of Barry Fitzwilliam, importers of Corona Light and Corona Extra in Ireland.

This is the very first time Corona Light has been exported beyond the US and Mexico, so Ireland is the first in Europe to trial it! To celebrate the big launch, Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club headlined the evening and were supported by folk-infused rock ‘n’ roll band Bipolar Empire, while the crème de la crème of Cork’s social scene ‘tripped the light fantastic’!

Special guest DJ Fadd Jr kept the party going into the late hours, while the Corona Light girls circulated throughout the night with buckets of the refreshing new low-cal beer with slices of lime, now synonymous with Corona. The overall feel of the evening was most definitely light!

Over 1,000 guests were invited to the launch party and ranged from VIPs to the media, members of the drinks industry in Ireland, regulars of The Bodega and the general public lucky enough to secure a much coveted ticket.

‘Experiencing the light’ were Brian McGuinness and Kevin O’Mahony from Barry & Fitzwilliam who were joined by Vincent Scanlon, Jenny O’Flynn and Brendan Coughlan from the Marketing Institute of Ireland Southern Region.

Mark Hopkins, Judy Hopkins and Niamh Sullivan from Hopkins Communications along with Rachael Murphy from RGM Communications were on hand to make sure everyone was having the night of their ‘light’.

The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of Cork , Cllr Terry Shannon was joined by Conor Healy, CEO of Cork Chamber and Frances Lynch of Victoria’s Antiques. Mick Hannigan and Una Feeney from the Corona Cork Film Festival were also there on the night along with Pauline Cotter and Hilary McCarthy of the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival.

Commenting at the launch, Michael Barry of Barry & Fitzwilliam, said, “Irish people are the best in the world for trying new things, and our research has shown that the market is ready for a new and tasty light beer to tickle the taste buds of Ireland’s energetic and discerning drinkers! Ireland is the top consumer of Corona Extra in Europe per capita and we expect Ireland’s consumers will lead the way with Corona Light as well’. www.bandf.ie
