Bon Secours Golf Classic in aid of Cúnamh & Cork Cancer Research Centre
Plans for the Bon Secours annual Golf Classic are now in full swing. The event, which is being organised by the Golf Society at Bon Secours, will take place in Fota Island Golf Club on Friday 27 July and will benefit two great Cork causes, Cúnamh and Cork Cancer Research Centre.
A highlight of the golfing calendar in Cork, this year’s event is being supported by many of Cork’s sporting heroes including, Irish rugby legend Donal Lenihan, Cork GAA Doctor Con Murphy and Cork footballers Graham Canty, Daniel Goulding and Alan Quirke. There are limited tee times still available at €300 for a team of three, which includes green fees, a buffet dinner and entertainment on the evening. Further money will be raised on the day with a fun charity bunker, and Tee box sponsorship opportunities are also available for €100.
The event aims to raise €10,000 for cancer research and cancer support services for two Cork charities who have been working for the people of Cork for many years. Cork Cancer Research Centre will put the monies raised towards their groundbreaking research into new treatments for life-threatening cancers. They have already brought five new treatments to clinical trial nationally, including at the Bon Secours Hospital, over the past ten years.
The Golf Classic will aid Cúnamh’s support group services at the Bon Secours Hospital, which assists patients diagnosed with cancer, and their families, with counselling, advice, transport, weekend breaks and therapies. (The Bon Secours has also just launched a new www.breastcare.ie website for information and treatment of all breast conditions.)
Commenting on the event, Chairperson Donna Roche, Clinical Services Manager at Bon Secours, said, “We are overwhelmed by the support of the public to date for our annual Golf Classic. This year, we have set an ambitious target of €10,000 so we hope the public will ‘drive’ deep once again and help us to fund new treatments for cancer and support services for those affected by the disease.”
